Pharmacists Making an Impact
“Because of our conversation, he actually took the steps to complete his at-home colorectal cancer screening test.”
That’s how Callie Vieira from Cub Pharmacy described the impact of a recent patient outreach encounter.
After speaking with a patient who had questions about colorectal cancer screening, Callie took time to explain the process and answer his concerns. That simple conversation helped turn hesitation into action.
The patient completed his at-home screening test, which returned a positive result. He is now scheduled for a colonoscopy and moving forward with the care he needs.
Callie shared that this encounter is an incredible reminder of why this work matters. Stories like this reinforce the powerful role pharmacists play in closing care gaps and improving patient outcomes. Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation from a trusted healthcare professional to help a patient take the next step.
This is exactly why Workflow Services continues expanding access to colorectal cancer screening through pharmacy partnerships. By combining outreach from trusted community pharmacists with Workflow Services’ technology-enabled adherence program, pharmacies can deliver sustainable clinical interventions that fit into real-world pharmacy operations.

New Feature Releases
Complexity-Based Billing Now Available
Workflow Services workflows now support complexity-based billing in addition to traditional time-based billing. This enhancement gives pharmacists more flexibility in how patient care services are documented and billed.
What is Complexity-Based (MDM) Billing?
MDM stands for Medical Decision Making. Instead of billing solely based on the amount of time spent with a patient, pharmacists can now select billing levels based on the complexity of the clinical work performed during the encounter.
MDM coding considers factors such as:
- The number and complexity of patient problems addressed
- The amount of clinical data reviewed or analyzed
- The level of risk associated with patient management decisions
This approach better reflects the clinical judgment and expertise pharmacists bring to patient care, especially during more involved clinical interventions.
To help pharmacies understand MDM billing levels and documentation requirements, review the coding reference chart here: MDM Coding Reference
Signed In User
Users of both the app and the desktop workflows will now see the name of the currently signed-in user displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. This enhancement helps improve visibility and accountability, especially in shared workstation environments, by making it easier to confirm which user account is actively logged in.
Beyond Vaccines: Services That Are Getting Pharmacists Paid
Now that vaccine season has slowed down, pharmacies have an opportunity to continue generating clinical revenue through non-dispensing services that fit naturally into existing workflows. Services like Medication Therapy Management (MTM), vaccine hesitancy counseling, and preventive care outreach programs allow pharmacists to stay engaged with patients while getting paid for the clinical care they already provide every day.
Medication Therapy Management (MTM)
Workflow Services makes it easy for pharmacies to launch and grow MTM services within existing workflows. And, in many states, MTM is a Medicaid carve-out service, meaning reimbursement is paid directly through Medicaid Fee-for-Service (FFS), even when the patient is enrolled in an MCO. This removes the need to identify the patient’s MCO/HMO or obtain contracts with multiple plans.
Depending on state rules, many MTM encounters can be completed over the telephone, making them flexible and easy to incorporate into daily operations. For many pharmacies, MTM services have become a reliable source of recurring non-dispensing revenue while helping improve patient adherence and outcomes.
Check with your individual state and/or the Workflow Services Customer Success Team to learn more about submitting MTM encounters through Workflow Services.
Preventive Care Programs
Preventive care initiatives continue to create new opportunities for pharmacies to expand clinical services and grow non-dispensing revenue streams. Vaccine hesitancy outreach and the Workflow Services colorectal cancer education and access program have become reliable ways for pharmacies to generate additional passive revenue while expanding patient care services.
Most recently, Workflow Services piloted a shingles vaccination initiative designed to help identify eligible patients, provide education, and increase vaccination rates through tech enabled pharmacist outreach.
These programs position pharmacies as accessible healthcare destinations while creating reimbursable clinical touchpoints that improve public health outcomes.
As healthcare continues shifting toward prevention and value-based care, pharmacies are uniquely positioned to deliver high-impact patient interventions directly within their communities, and Workflow Services is here to support and enable these programs every step of the way.
