Workflow Services Product Update and Newsletter Vol. 14 - January, 2026
Workflow Services is committed to meeting the needs of our customers. We listen carefully to feedback you share and make updates as quickly as we are able. This newsletter will help you stay informed of new features in our platform and keep you updated on industry news.
New Feature: Switch a Returned Medical Claim to a Cash Service
We’ve added a new feature that gives pharmacy staff greater flexibility when handling returned medical claims. When a medical claim is in a Returned status, staff will now see a new button labeled “Switch to Cash.” This allows the claim to be converted into a Cash Service and enables the pharmacy to charge the patient the listed cash price directly.
This enhancement is particularly useful in situations where there is an issue with a patient’s insurance information—such as incorrect details, coverage delays, or eligibility problems—and the provider prefers not to continue cycling through medical claim resubmissions. Instead, the pharmacy can move forward with collecting the payment and avoid unnecessary administrative delays.
“Close Without Payment” for Cash Services: What to Know
For Cash Service charges—including those created using the new “Switch to Cash” functionality—pharmacy staff now have the option to “Close without payment.” Selecting this option will remove the claim from your active list, helping keep queues clean and focused on actionable items.
While there are benefits to a clean queue, closing out a cash service in this way means lost revenue for your pharmacy, so please use this feature sparingly.
We recommend ensuring that all staff understand when and why to use this option so that it supports workflow efficiency without unexpected fee misunderstandings.
Flu & Strep Season Is Here: Are You Ready for Testing?
Flu and strep season is upon us—and with it comes a major opportunity for pharmacies to support patients with fast, convenient point-of-care (POC) testing. Use this checklist to make sure your pharmacy is ready for this season:
1. Ensure Adequate Testing Inventory
Now is the time to review your inventory of rapid diagnostic test kits, including Flu A/B, Strep, and COVID-19/Flu combination tests. Having sufficient stock ensures you can meet patient needs quickly and confidently throughout the season.
2. Promote Your Services
Many patients—and even local schools—may not realize your pharmacy offers testing. Increase awareness by displaying clear signage in-store and at the drive-thru, updating your website and social media with testing details and hours, and reminding patients at the counter when they pick up prescriptions or OTC flu products.
3. Utilize the Workflow Services Platform
All testing, result reporting, and billing must be completed accurately and promptly within the Workflow Services platform. Ensure staff are trained on patient intake, test performance, and documentation.
Pro Tip: Use the last name “zztest” to practice workflows—this flags the patient as a test entry and prevents billing.
