Outreach Strategies for Independent Pharmacies Using Workflow Services
As a participating pharmacy in the Workflow Services CRC program, you have a unique opportunity to help increase access to life-saving colorectal cancer screenings in your community. Promoting the program effectively can boost engagement, improve health outcomes, and drive additional foot traffic to your pharmacy.
You can find inspiration for your CRC marketing needs here: Colorectal Cancer Screening Program - Media Guide
đź”— 1. Add the CRC Screener Link to Your Website
Make it easy for customers to access the screening by placing the screener link in a visible spot on your homepage. Consider using a button or banner that says something like:
"Take Our Colorectal Cancer Screening Eligibility Quiz" (Be sure to avoid using the word “Cologuard” when promoting this screening program, as it is a trademarked term.)
📧 2. Include in All Customer Communications
Mention the CRC program customer messaging and always include either a URL or QR code to the screening questionnaire:
- Text and/or Email campaigns
- Prescription pickup text/email reminders
- In-store signage and posters (see template below)
- Monthly newsletters
- Social media campaigns and posts
- Prescription bag stuffers (see templates below)
- Receipts or flyers
Use clear and inviting language like:
“If you’re 45 or older, you may qualify for a no out-of-pocket cost at-home colorectal cancer screening kit. Ask us how or visit [insert link]!”
🏥 3. Share with Your Immunization Partners
If you hold immunization clinics at:
- Local employers
- Schools
- Churches
- Senior centers
- Other public events (sporting events, county fairs, etc.)
Make sure to share the CRC screener link and educate them on how your pharmacy is making preventive care more accessible in advance of the event, and have QR code posters on-site to allow folks to pre-screen while they wait for their vaccination. This can also lead to long-term relationships and referrals.
Reach out to these venues outside of vaccine season to promote CRC screenings throughout the year - more people turn 45 every day.
📲 4. Run a Text Message Campaign
Text outreach has shown strong results in getting patients to start the CRC screener. You can send a simple message like:
“[Pharmacy Name]: You may qualify for a no out-of-pocket cost at-home colorectal cancer screening kit. Start here: [link]”
Follow up with a phone call to patients who started the screener but haven't yet ordered a kit. A quick, friendly reminder can make all the difference.
đź’¬ 5. Community Engagement & Word of Mouth
- Talk about the program with local organizations, places of worship, gyms, or libraries.
- Present at community health events or collaborate with local health coalitions.
- Encourage staff to promote the program in everyday conversations with customers.
âś… Best Practices for Success:
- Train your team to talk confidently about the CRC program.
- Keep materials (flyers, QR codes, handouts) at the counter and consultation area.
- Highlight patient privacy and ease of use—it’s convenient, done at home, and for 96% (or more) of patients with insurance there will be no out-of-pocket cost.
By taking a proactive approach to promoting the CRC screening program, your pharmacy can play a critical role in preventive care—while growing your community impact.
