Testing with treatment is one of the most common workflows used by our pharmacy partners. The specifics of the protocol may vary depending on which state you are operating in, but the basics of performing the workflow are the same.
Nearly all workflows start with the patient registering for services. If you're unfamiliar with this process, see the Patient Self-Registration article.
Once the patient is registered, you can pick up the workflow in the mobile application.
COVID/Strep/Flu Assessment
Start the workflow by tapping on the Covid/Strep/Flu Pathway button.
-
Search for your patient
-
If the patient has already registered for testing and has their QR Code handy, you will use the Search by Test Subject ID option.
- If they do not have their QR Code, you can search for them using the Search by last name/DOB option.
-
- If the patient is not found, you can create them in the mobile application directly.
- See this article on creating patients in the mobile application for step-by-step instructions.
- The workflow will load prior encounters for the patient including the patient's survey if they have already filled it out. Choose to review the patient's survey or proceed to the assessment pathway.
- For customers processing payment through Workflow Services, the next screen will have you confirm Payment Information for the patient.
- Add a credit card or select the one the patient used during registration.
- Indicate if you intend to bill insurance and add an insurance card or select the one the patient used during registration. Workflow Services will then perform a real-time eligibility check.
- Depending on the patient's symptoms, you will indicate which tests you believe are indicated for the patient.
- Review the exclusion criteria and patient medications for contraindications.
- If a referral is clinically indicated, the workflow will alert you and allow you to document how you followed up with the patient's care team.
- Perform the physical assessment, collect vitals signs, and perform the Centor Score if indicated.
- Tap Save and Perform POC tests.
Performing the Tests
- The workflow will automatically proceed to the next phase of the workflow.
- Select the test kit that you will be using from the drop down.
- Scan the barcode on test kit box to pull in the lot number and expiration date automatically. For tests that have not been configured with barcode scanning, manually type in the lot & expiration date.
- Tap Next to proceed to the next screen. Confirm patient contact details so they can receive their test results as soon as they are ready.
- Verify what is configured is correct, tap Opt In if the patient has not selected a contact preference, or tap Modify to make changes to the information entered.
- Collect the sample(s) from the patient.
- If you feel it is clinically appropriate to test the patient for multiple illnesses, take all of the samples you need from the patient at this time and prepare the test kits.
At this point, depending on your protocols for symptomatic patients, you can send the patient home or to their car to receive their results.
Entering in Test Results
- Tap the Next button to enter in the results when ready.
-
Tap on the result of the test.
-
For digitally read tests, confirm that the test reading device matches the image on the screen to proceed.
-
-
Tap Next.
-
Optionally, take a picture of the test result as an added layer of certainty. This image is saved in our database, but it is not sent to the patient.
-
Tap Next and verify that all of the information displayed is correct.
-
Tap Save and Exit Session to save and proceed to the next steps.
In the background, all of the information just entered has been submitted to our database, reported to state & federal health agencies for tests with a COVID component, and the patient should receive their result by email or SMS if they opted-in.
Performing Multiple Tests
If your patient's symptoms indicated they should be tested for multiple illnesses, you will have additional buttons available to you to enter in a second set of test results.
Cycle back through the testing workflow until you have entered in all of the results you collected.
Finalizing the Encounter
Depending on the results of your tests, you will be able to prescribe for positive patients or provide recommendations for symptom management when a prescription is not possible.
For patients who are positive for COVID, you may have the option to either provide symptom management guidance and OTC medication recommendations or you may be able to prescribe Paxlovid. See this article for details on the Paxlovid workflow.
- Follow the steps in the workflow to prescribe when it's clinically appropriate
- The workflow will guide you through the prescribing process and highlight any contraindications you may need to take into account.
-
For customers processing payment through Workflow Services, tap on the Review Billing button and enter the details of the visit.
-
Choose how to charge the patient for the visit (cash or card)
- A reminder that the patient is charged a clinical assessment fee set by the pharmacy in addition to the cost of the test. This is to offer you more flexibility in determining the most appropriate test(s) during the visit.
-
Tap Continue to return to the summary screen
-
- Tap Save and Exit Session when you are done.
Once again, all information has been submitted to our database.
The final report of the encounter will be available in the Report Manager in the web portal and it will also be sent to the PMS for organizations with an integrated experience.
