An External ID is an ID number that is associated with the patient outside of the context of Workflow Services. For example, a patient's driver's license number, account number, or medical record number would be an External ID. You might find it beneficial to add those numbers to a patient's record in order to print that on a report or to match patients between our system and an external system.
Viewing External IDs
In the Web Portal, you will find a section to add, edit, and remove External IDs when you click the Edit button next to any patient in the Patients tab.

Some external IDs are automatically created for patients based on certain actions, such as a shortcode created when a new patient is created using the patient Self-Registration workflow.
Adding an External ID
To add a new External ID to a patient who has already created a Workflow Services account:
- Scroll down to the External ID section and press the + to create a new one
- Choose the External ID type and enter in the ID you wish to add
- Scroll down and click Save Changes
